Castel-Nègre - a little history |

The first records of Castel-Nègre date from around 1780. The domain belonged to the Church, to the bishops of Alet les Bains.
During the redistribution of the Church’s estates it was given to
a count. He was succeeded in around 1880 by ‘the lady of Castel-Nègre’,
who built the main house as well as the winery in 1896 |

Having no descendents she donated the domain
to a brotherhood of Vendéen priests. They held masses, baptisms
and communions in the little church, and the chapel served as their place
of contemplation. These ceremonies and the other events organised by a
priest called Trougnou, are still remembered by the residents of this
area.

We began by planting new grape varieties that were better suited to the soil and climate of this region.

 Then
we acquired new equipment to improve the wine-making: steel tanks, press,
egrappoir, cooling systels and pumps. We have also invested in bottling
and labelling equipment in order to become fully autonomous. |

| Finally, the last stage was to improve the tasting and sales cellar, which allows us to meet our clients, and share with them our passion for wine and grapes, and our love of this region.
